Long Valley Yurts - Great Langdale National Trust Campsite
OS Grid Reference: NY286059
Long Valley Yurts are situated in Great Langdale National Trust Campsite at the head of Great Langdale Valley and provides an excellent base for fell walking, rock climbing, mountain biking or just relaxing. Overlooked by the Langdale Pikes and with views towards Crinkle Crags and Bowfell, this site is a spectacular location for exploring this dramatic area of the Lake District.
Scafell Pike (England's highest at 3,210 feet) is within striking range from here, as well as the neighbouring valleys of Eskdale and Borrowdale. Langdale is a rock climbers paradise with such well known climbing locations as Gimmer Crag and Raven Crag. Easier walks take you over towards the picturesque valleys of Elterwater and Little Langdale.
What is a Yurt?
Yurts are traditional circular dwellings from central Asia that have been in use for thousands of years. The traditional yurt is decorated in colourful materials, handmade rugs and carpets. Cool in the summer and warm in the winter the yurt itself is supported with solid wooden trellis walls and has at its centre, a crown or Tono (ornate 'roof wheel') to further strengthen the structure. Covered with a thick, watertight covering the yurt keeps you dry and warm in any weather.
